Why You Don't Need Rhythm to Start Dancing
8 min read · Karan Maru · 9 September 2026
Walk past any studio in Andheri on a weekday evening and you will hear the same sentence through the glass: "I would love to, but I have two left feet." It is the single biggest myth keeping people off the dance floor — the idea that rhythm is a birthright you either have or don't.
Rhythm is not a gift, it is a vocabulary. Nobody is born fluent. The students who look "natural" after six months are simply the ones who showed up twice a week and let themselves be beginners without apology.
The only prerequisite
Your first classes are not about steps at all. They are about learning to listen — to the music, and to your own body, which has been keeping time your whole life every time you walked, breathed or nodded along to a song in traffic on the Western Express Highway.
So come as you are. Wear something you can move in, stand at the back if you like, and give yourself eight sessions before you judge anything. The rhythm doesn't come first. You do — and the rhythm finds you.
